Do you still think you can escape, Number Six?
I am tickled beyond all reasonable comprehension to say that I'm going to be giving a talk entitled "How Tech Works Against Our Better Nature" at the upcoming No. 6 Festival. The talk is a part of Salon No. 6, the contribution of the marvellous people at Salon London to the overall 4-day event (the lineup of which looks fantastic). The festival takes place from the 6th to the 9th of September "in the village" of Portmeirion, North Wales, which was famously the set for the 1960s classic TV series The Prisoner.
I was a huge fan of this show. In fact, while I was watching The Sci-Fi Channel (now known as SyFy) in its early days of existence (via a 6-foot satellite dish in my backyard in Alabama) they did an all-weekend marathon of all 17 episodes, back-to-back, and since I had an extraordinary stomach flu that weekend, I joyfully watched them (between all-too-frequent bathroom breaks). That's right, I myself was The Prisoner of No. 2!
Anyway, the talk should be interesting, as it'll be a bit of a preview of my upcoming book, due out in the Spring. I may even announce the official title there, you never know!
If you want to know my position in the lineup, all I can say for now is:
